Nancy McCready, Commercial Investment Properties

I am currently the Marketing Director for Commercial Investment Properties (CIP).

I grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and attended Kansas State University (go Cats!). I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in journalism/mass communications and advertising. I minored in family studies and human services.

How long have you been an AMA member?
I was introduced to the AMA in 2011 and quickly fell in love with the organization. I joined soon after and have since served on the board for two years, in addition to overseeing the BrandMe SIG for two years. On the board, I served as the Prism Awards co-chair and the communications chair. Both positions were fulfilling in their own ways. One of the most rewarding experiences, though, was transitioning the Prism Awards ceremony from a lunchtime event to an early evening event with my co-chair, Erin Wirth.

What are your job responsibilities? How has AMA helped you be more successful in your professional endeavors?
My job responsibilities include a little bit of everything, as we have a small marketing team and perform most all functions in-house. It keeps me on my toes, though, and I am always learning something new. The AMA has been extremely beneficial to me in both keeping me up to date on trends and connecting me with other marketers in Lincoln. Both have been invaluable to my career.

What have you enjoyed most about being an AMA member?
The people and the programming — especially the SkillSchools. If you have never been to a SkillSchool session, I highly recommend it! It’s my favorite addition to the programming mix.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
My husband and I own a photography business called n2photography, so much of my spare time is spent photographing people and their loved ones. I love it and all the people we’ve met because of it. I also love the outdoors and have recently become addicted to kayaking. So, if you see a little Honda driving around with two big kayaks strapped to the top, it might be me!

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’ve taken a belly dancing class.

What is your best career advice for your fellow marketers?
Be resourceful. Be a life learner. Be open to new opportunities.

Do you have any favorite marketing blogs, books or podcasts?
My favorite podcast as of late is “How I Built This” by NPR. It profiles entrepreneurs who started their own businesses and chronicles the challenges they faced before finding their success. While not specifically a marketing podcast, I find a lot of inspiration as a marketer from hearing these stories.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
This is a tough question! Lincoln has many great local businesses. I’d have to say my favorite local restaurant, though, is Bread & Cup.
